AV Preeminent Attorney For several decades Barry Helfand has received an AV Preeminent rating which is the highest possible rating provided by Martindale-Hubell. An AV Preeminent rating is intended to reflect a significant accomplishment and a “testament to the fact that a lawyer’s peers rank him at the highest level of professional excellence”. This rating is provided based upon interviews with judges and other lawyers. The award is based upon both high ethical standards and legal ability. The Legal Ability Ratings are based upon performance in five key areas: Legal Knowledge, Analytical Capabilities, Judgment, Communication Ability, and Legal Experience. Washington’s Best Legal Minds Washington’s Best Legal Minds (Washingtonian’s List of Best Lawyers) – Every so often the Washingtonian magazine creates a list of Best Lawyers or Top lawyers in the Maryland and Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. In the most recent list that was published our law firm was one of very few law firms to have more than one member of the firm that appear on this prestigious list. Both Barry Helfand and David Martella were honored to be listed in the most recent Washingtonian Magazine list (2011-2012) of “Top Lawyers: Criminal Defense Attorneys”. Washingtonian Magazine commented that “from DUIs to Murder charges, these lawyers are the best allies if you are in trouble with the law”.
